In many drawings in AutoCAD mechanical Autodesk 2020 objects have invisible portion or hidden features which are represented by dotted lines in the projection views . So, in order to understand the details of interior view of object , it is splited or cut by an imaginary line or plane called sectional plane . The part of the object between the cut out plane is assumed to be removed and then the view is shown in section , the view which is thus obtained is known as sectional view.
What is Sectional View ?
"The view which is obtained after cutting the object with an imaginary plane is known as Sectional View". The surface which is produced after cutting the object by the plane is known as section , which is represented by sections of thin lines uniformly spaced at an angle of 45 degree.
Sectional view is the view which is seen when the portion of object is placed near to observer is imagined to be removed by cutting plane , thus indicating the internal construction , the other are remained same and are not affected in any way and always represent the entire object.
Types of Sectional Views
Sectional views are generally of two types , which are depend on the number of planes cutting the object. Below mentioned are the types of sectional views:-
- Full Sectional view
- Half Sectional view

When the front half portion of an object is removed and the view obtained after removing it is called Full Sectional view and in other terms it is known as Sectional Elevation. When the plane cuts the objects according to length wise the full sectional view is obtained , it is also called longitudinal section view and the other sides are remain unaffected in this view.

When the front quarter of an object i.e one fourth portion of an object is removed by means of two planes at an angle of 90 degree (right angle ) to each other is known as Half Sectional view and in other terms it is known as Half sectional Elevation.In this section, the top view will remains unaffected and if side view is not taken in section view then it will also remains unaffected .
